Meeting With the First Lady of Poland Agata Kornhauser- Duda

The First Lady of the Republic of Poland Agata Kornhauser- Duda came to New York City on a one day visit to meet with the representatives of United Nations,  UNICEF and Polonia to discuss the Ukrainian refugee crisis in Poland.

The First Lady was accompanied by the United Nations ambassador to Poland Krzysztof Szczerski and the Presidential Minister Adam Kwiatkowski. During her visit she met with members of UNICEF as well as Joyce Msuya an Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator in the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs,  Ilze Brands Kehris the head of United Nations Human Rights Office , Sanda Ojiambo, an executive director of the United Nations Global Compact.  The discussion evolved around the challenges that the current refugees situation in Poland creates including a need for medicine and medical equipment, jobs for the newly arrived, housing and continues education for the kids from Ukraine. The First Lady stressed the importance of foreign aid to Poland in order to help deal with the crisis.

After meetings at the United Nations the First Lady met with the representatives of Polish-American organizations who are actively helping to raise funds and other aid for the Ukrainian’s who have fled to Poland. Polonia organizations in New York have collectively raised over half a million dollars up to that point. Pulaski Association of Business and Professional Men helped that effort by donating over $20,000 raised by it’s members. Gregory Fryc - the President of the organization was invited to attend the meeting that was held at the Consulate of The Republic of Poland in New York.
